The paperclip-shaped short track known as Martinsville opened in 1947, two years before NASCAR was founded. Since then Martinsville has grown from a dusty, rough-hewn operation into one of the most beautiful and modern racing facilities around. It features some of the best beating, banging, and good old fashioned short track racing on the NASCAR circuit.

Martinsville Speedway opened in 1947 with 750 seats and since then has doubled in size. The track was unpaved until 1955 and the track configuration has not been changed since Red Byron won the inaugural event. The race track has been called ?two drag strips with a turnaround on each end?. With this layout you will see some of the best fender to fender actions, and push and shove racing on the NASCAR Nextel cup Circuit.
