Watkins Glen was opened in 1953 and held many racing events
there until the 1981s when there was financial hardship; the track
was closed and most likely wasnt going to be reopened. It was
reopened in 1984, three years after its closing when Corning
Enterprises and International Speedway formed a partnership and
launched the reopening of Watkins Glen International. Over the
years there have been improvements made to the track to allow for
fierce competition and better spectator viewing. From all its ups
and downs Watkins Glen has become a premier road racing facility in
the United States.
